Skadi — Red Heeler / Border Collie mix

The one in charge. Skadi does not chase clues — she stands still and looks at things until they are in the right place. She is the smallest dog on the team and the only one nobody argues with. Pale blue eyes, both ears up, and no patience at all.

Jet — Newfoundland

The biggest dog in the book and the calmest creature in the neighbourhood. Jet arrives late, solves the problem immediately, and then lies down. He is built for water, which turns out to matter more than anyone expected.

Brandi — Boxer

The one who goes through. Brandi is fast, brave, and takes absolutely everything seriously — including the things nobody asked her to take seriously. She is the reason the team gets anywhere, and usually the reason they get noticed.

Punkin — Basset Hound

The nose. Punkin follows trails other dogs cannot smell, at a speed nobody else can tolerate, and she is always right. She is also permanently offended about something, and it is usually lunch.
